Friday, 31 August, 2007-- my final show at WHUS.
It’s time to pretend I don’t exist. No, I’m not
going to Antarctica—well, not yet—but I plan to have
bizarre celebrations anywhere I travel. Today marks
the day of a new passage for myself, and for WHUS. I
have been honored to keep two hours of the airwaves
for myself every Friday afternoon to play all types of
madness for the past two and a half years, and it is
now time for me to pass them along to someone else.
Today is my official last show.
Although I will be moving on in life—to various parts
of the world, meeting new people, discovering many
forms of music, and even exploring different radio
stations—WHUS has made an everlasting impression on my
soul.
It was and forever will be a community that attracts
so many diverse individuals who share at least two
things in common: the love of music and the desire to
share it with as many people as possible.
The good spirits and true vibes of this place cannot
be forgotten. In fact, they will be missed. The
memories I have will always make me smile.
I was raised a Rosebrooks station child, and in a
sense was spoiled because there will never be anything
like it again. It’s like when I look back at the
Beatnik era and say “man! I wish I was a part of
that!” Well, I was too young for that, but at the
right moment for WHUS’s barn station epoch. Part of
the true experience was to sleep there—and I had spent
many-a-night passed out on one of the sofas after
having walked past other sleeping bodies.
I was provided several opportunities at WHUS,
especially when I was Music Director—traveling to
Texas, New Orleans, and frequently to NYC for
conferences and many, many live shows. I had the
chance to have wonderful guests on my show perform,
such as Incognito SofaLove, the Evan Goodrow Band, Quiet Life, Cup of Sun, Nap La Joy, Naughty Jungle of Love, the Scourge of the Sea, Otherwise and
interview musicians I adore like Vic Thrill and Kevin
Barnes (from Of Montreal).
So do I really want to leave WHUS? Well, no. But as
George Harrison sings, “All things must pass. None of
life’s strings can last. SO I’ll be on my way, and
face another day.”
Where I will be going?—I’m not too sure just yet, but
I know you’ll be able to find me with my freak flag
high, and my backpack on (a WHUS sticker on it, of
course) ha ha!
I bid you adieu, and perhaps I shall return in a few
years once I’ve discovered the world and found myself.
Thank you for the best two and half years I’ve had
yet.
And a special thank you to John Murphy, general
manager here at WHUS, for his brilliance, and spirit
of tolerance. As John always says, “Keep the faith.”
WHUS has made the switch!
We are now broadcasting from the Student Union located at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
I will always miss and hold dearly to my heart the old place that I had spent two and a half years dj-ing from, oh good ole Rosebrooks barn!
But we now carry High Definition equipment, and on air capabilities that will enhance the radio station greatly!

BIG thanks to everyone who came out to last night's Creative Cocktail Hour at Real Art Ways!!
I had a great time dancing and laughing with many of you.
Santogold totally rocked it.

Last night-
I took my shoes off-
And danced until the sun came up-
Now my feet are dirty-
But-
Atleast my soul was cleansed.
